Higher School of Art and Design • Grenoble • Valence
L’École Supérieure d’Art & Design (ÉSAD) •Grenoble •Valence is a state-run of higher arts education, formed at the request of the French government, from the merger in 2011 of L’École Supérieure d’Art de Grenoble and l’École des Beaux-Arts de Valence. Located on two sites, one in Grenoble and the other in Valence, ÉSAD•• is a Public Institution for Cultural Cooperation (EPCC).
From the first year onwards, teaching is based on a project dynamic that relies on effective experimental practice. In the art and design masters programs, the diploma is awarded on the basis of the independent and ambitious completion of a personal project. In ART, the fields covered are all those of today’s art: installation, performance, video, photography, sound, multimedia, but also drawing, painting, volume, editorial practices and multiples. In GRAPHIC DESIGN, the school favours a critical and productive approach to visual communication, in a variety of fields (visual identity, signage, publishing, typography, interface ergonomics, involving all print and digital media). Courses are based on a combination of research-based practices that were praised during the evaluation by the “Haut Conseil de l’Evaluation de la Recherche et de l’Enseignement Supérieur– HCERES”.
