Campus Arts Caraïbeen
The Campus Caribéen des Arts – CCA Martinique is a higher art education institution accredited by the French Ministry of Culture and part of the network of French territorial higher art schools. Formerly a regional school of visual arts founded in 1984 at the instigation of Aimé Césaire, this establishment – which became the Institut Régional d’art Visuel de Martinique in 1997, then the Campus Caribéen des Arts in 2011 – is the only French-speaking higher educational hub for the visual arts in the Caribbean and the wider American territories. The institution is attached to the Collectivité Territoriale de Martinique as a public administrative establishment.
Its main challenge is to put the European system of local art schools into perspective regarding this vast territory. The work produced by artists from the CCA questions the issues raised by the deep historical, sociological, and cultural roots of West Indian societies, which have assimilated contradictory elements and diverse influences to forge their own identity and culture.
The school pursues its mission of training creators in all forms of artistic expression and offers a degree course in the fields of visual arts and design.
It awards two national diplomas:
– The Diplôme National Supérieur d’Expression Plastique – DNSEP art [Bac+5 conferring the grade of Master],
– The Diplôme National d’Art – DNA art and design (graphic design – object design) [Bac+3 conferring the grade of Licence].
The first year of common study leads to a 2nd year of specialisation in art or design.
The CCA supports and stimulates inquisitive thinking about art, both within the national network of art schools and with partner schools in the Caribbean and elsewhere, thanks to the unique paradigms of contemporary art.
