Ode to Joy
Embarked on an exploration of the symbols of Europe, four students in advanced sound studies delved into the significance of the material sound of the European anthem, the renowned “Ode to Joy.” They explored the anthem’s transformation from its origins in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony to its adoption as a symbol of European unity and identity. The project aimed to uncover and reflect on the ways this musical piece resonates within the context of European culture and politics, enriching the broader discourse on European identity through a musical lens.
