L’Europe des lisières / The Edges of Europe
Graphic Design, botanics and politics: what is the common denominator amongst these three fields that, at first glance, do not have one?
The two schools collaborated for EuroFabrique, focusing on the coexistence of flora and graphic signs in public spaces. How does the spontaneous presence of living forms in asphalt, interstices, and urban edges challenge our relationship with nature and the world? Plants take on roles as actors, witnesses, and instruments, contributing to space organization, boundary delineation, and thus, territory establishment. What is the connection between botany, plant ecology, and the construction of a European identity? Graphic design students, accustomed to digital objects, stept out of their screens, to engage in handmade and artisanal skills, and produce differently. Today, these issues resonate with the concerns of art and design students, who are increasingly engaged. EuroFabrique offered them a space for reflection and expression, which they were keen to fully invest in.
The collaboration between the schools resulted in diverse objects (editions, inventories, photographs), and kept on existing throughout a common workshop held in Amsterdam from the 18th to the 20th of May 2022.
Teachers involved (EESAB-site de Rennes) : Marjolaine Levy and Isabelle Jego
