Looking for a name [unraveling the myth]

Project concept

Considering multiculturalism, development and internationalization, it is also interesting to reflect on and shape the notion of the collective. Isn’t Europe also the symbolic union of several territories and a large number of thinking beings? 

The overall theme being the myth of the rapture of Europe, we suggest addressing the question of the geographical definition of Europe, taking into account Overseas Europe and therefore all the history linked to colonization that this implies. In the continuity of our common research, the lines of our work will propose sensitive approaches to photographic documents such as archives and documents but also situated, intimate and daily experiences. We can reflect on how to do justice to Europa, or at least offer a different reading of the myth, in reverse, without poetic fantasies or outdated and impoverishing conceptualisations. How can we not talk about the conflicts that surround us, and, beyond the creation of Europe, about its present?

Our workshop seeks to deconstruct the traditional narratives surrounding Europe, embracing chaos and absurdity as catalysts for creativity. The rapture of Europe becomes a playground for artistic subversion, where fabric, ropes, and strings serve as our anarchic tools of expression. Considering that translation is an interpretation which, in its search for meaning and adequacy from one object to another (linguistic or plastic), presupposes deviations, approximations, contradictions, oppositions, other possibilities… We want to entangle ourselves in the threads of history, questioning the very fabric of Europe’s identity. Just as Dadaists rebelled against the conventions of their time, we challenge the established notions of geography, colonialism, and cultural unity. The strings that bind us are not only physical but also metaphysical, connecting us to the collective consciousness of a continent in perpetual flux.

As we weave our installations, we consider the absurdity of borders and the fluidity of languages. Dadaist principles remind us that meaning is subjective, interpretation is arbitrary, and deviation is inevitable. Our fabric becomes a canvas for the irrational, a rebellion against poetic fantasies and conventional narratives. Performances, films, sculptures, and writings will converge in a chaotic dance, mirroring the complexity of Europe’s past and present. Language, a tool of both unity and division, will be a key player in our experimental dialogue, inviting participants to question and subvert linguistic boundaries. Join us in this collective unraveling and be part of a transformative exploration, redefining the myth of Europe.
