European Accents
The Atelier National de Recherche Typographique is a third-cycle program at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Art et de Design de Nancy. It hosts student-researchers from around the world, specializing in world scripts and their typographic notation. The European Union has 24 official languages and about sixty regional languages, most of which are written using the Latin alphabet and also the Greek and Cyrillic alphabets since Bulgaria’s EU entry in 200. These languages also included diacritical marks – that appear above, below, or beside letters—that differentiate phonetic variations from a common norm. They play a significant role in the identity and diversity of languages, making them a fitting subject for EuroFabrique. Eleven student-researchers from ANRT participated in EuroFabrique under the guidance of Thomas Huot-Marchand (ANRT Nancy) and Radek Sidun (UMPRUM, Prague Academy of Arts, Architecture and Desig).
